UDUPI SPECIAL BREAKFAST – DAHI POHA | MOSARU AVALAKKI RECIPE

Here’s a classic recipe for Mosaru Avalakki (also known as Dahi Poha or Curd Poha)—a quintessential, cooling Karnataka (Udupi) dish made with curd seasoned with spices mixed with flattened rice and a tempering of spices in sesame oil. Dahi Poha is a popular breakfast across India during the hot summer months. It keeps us cool and satiated for 3 to 4 hours. UDUPI SPECIAL DAHI POHA | MOSARU AVALAKKI – STEP BY STEP RECIPE
- In a mixing bowl, take 1 cup of Yogurt or Curd (Dahi) and add 1/2 tsp of sugar and salt as per taste to the curd. Whisk the curd with the salt and sugar till there are no lumps. The texture of the curd should be smooth as shown in the image.






2. Next, add the below mentioned ingredients one by one to the curd :
- 1/4th tsp of chopped Green Chillies
- 1/4th tsp of chopped Ginger
- 1 tbsp of grated Coconut
- 1 tbsp of chopped Coriander Leaves
- 1 tbsp of chopped Mint Leaves (optional)
Mix all the above mentioned ingredients with the curd.






3. Here, we have taken half cup of poha or beaten rice and soaked it in water for few minutes. When poha will become soft then drain the water. Add the poha to the curd and mix well. If required, add 1 to 2 tbsp of curd to the poha and give a nice mix.




4. Heat 1 tbsp of sesame oil and temper the oil with the below mentioned spices :
- 1 tsp of Cumin and Mustard Seeds
- a pinch of Asafoetida (Hing)
- 1/4th tsp of chopped Ginger
- 10 to 12 Curry Leaves
Fry the spices for few seconds and pour the tempering (tadka) on the dahi poha or mosaru avalakki.
Mosaru Avalakki is very easy to make and healthy Udupi special breakfast perfect for hot summer mornings.
