RATH YATRA SPECIAL ATTA KAKARA PITHA – STEP BY STEP RECIPE

  1. Prepare the Jaggery Syrup
  • Bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
  • Add ½ cup of jaggery and stir until it melts completely.
  • Once the jaggery has fully dissolved, add the following ingredients:
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds (saunf)
    • 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
    • 1 teaspoon black pepper powder
    • 1 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter)
  • Stir well until all the ingredients are thoroughly combined. Simmer for 2–3 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.

2. Making the Dough

  • Add 1 cup of whole wheat flour to the jaggery syrup.
  • Stir the flour quickly to ensure there are no lumps.
  • Cook the mixture for a few minutes, stirring continuously, until it forms a soft dough.
  • Transfer the dough to a plate and let it cool completely before using it.

3. Making of Kakara Pitha

  • Once the dough has cooled completely, take a small portion of it.
  • Roll the dough into a thick chapati.
  • Using a cookie cutter or a small steel bowl, cut out small, round discs as shown.
  • Repeat the process with the remaining dough until all the Kakara Pitha discs are prepared.

4. Frying & Offering as Bhog

  • Heat oil or ghee in a deep pan over medium heat.
  • Gently slide the prepared Kakara Pitha into the hot oil and fry until both sides turn golden brown and crisp. Avoid overcrowding the pan; fry in batches if needed.
  • Remove the fried Kakara Pitha using a slotted spoon and drain the excess oil.
  • Place a tulsi leaf and offer Kakara Pitha to the Lord Jagannath on Rath Yatra festival.
