Dadhyodanam is the sacred annaprasadam of Tirumala Tirupati Venkateshwara Balaji Temple. It is a very simple and sattvic preparation of creamy curd rice offered to lord Venkateshwara daily. There are two variations of curd rice offered to the deity, one is Dadhyodanam and the second is Bakala Baath. Dadhyodanam or Daddojanam is a very simple and mildly spiced creamy curd rice whereas Bakala Baath is a spicy curd rice prasadam. Here, I am sharing with you the traditional Dadhyodanam (Curd Rice) prasadam of Tirupati Balaji Temple. Dadhyodanam is also offered in other South Indian Temples as prasadam.

DADHYODANAM: TIRUMALA TIRUPATI TEMPLE-STYLE CURD RICE – STEP BY STEP RECIPE

  1. First of all, here I have cooked 1/2 cup of white raw rice cooked to a soft consistency. Take the cooked rice in a mixing bowl and add the below mentioned ingredients one by one :

Mix all these ingredients nicely with the cooked rice. Please note that the yogurt should not be very sour or tangy. It should be fresh creamy yogurt with mild sourness. You may prefer to add more yogurt for a creamy texture and skip the milk. Here, I have not added the milk.

2. Next, let’s prepare a tempering. Heat 1 tbsp of Sesame Oil or Cow Ghee in a tempering pan. When the oil is hot, add 1 tsp of black gram or urad dal and fry till the dal is lightly browned. Next, add 1 tsp of Mustard seeds and 1/4th tsp of Asafoetida or Hing. Fry till the mustard seeds starts to splutter and by then the black gram dal will be perfectly browned. Pour the tempering on the curd rice and mix it nicely.

Divinely delicious Dadhyodanam or Tirumala Tirupati Style Curd Rice Annaprasadam is ready!!
