Can street foods be healthy? Let me introduce you to a famous Bengali Street Food called Aloo Kabli Chaat. Aloo Kabli Chaat is basically boiled potatoes, sprouts, onions, spices, tamarind and lime juice mixed together makes it such a flavorful salad or chaat. This is one of my favorite guiltfree evening snacks which I can eat daily. Try it once and let me know how you find it.
HOW TO MAKE ALOO KABLI CHAAT (STEP BY STEP RECIPE)
- Boil 4 to 5 Potatoes, peel off the skin of the boiled potatoes and chop the potatoes into small cubes. Take the potato cubes in a large mixing bowl.
2. Now, let’s add the below ingredients one by one :
- 1 small Cucumber cut into thin strips
- 1 medium size Onion, finely chopped
- 1 Tomato, finely chopped
- 2 to 3 Green Chillies, finely chopped
- 1/4th cup of Sprouted Black Chickpeas ( Kala Chana)
- 1/4th cup of boiled Yellow Peas
- 1/8th cup of fried Peanuts
- a handful of chopped Coriander Leaves
3. Next, let’s make the Chaat dressing. Take a lemon size Tamarind and soak it in hot water for 30 minutes then squeeze out the Tamarind pulp. This will give 1/4th cup of Tamarind pulp. You may use readily available Tamarind pulp as well.
Now, to the Tamarind pulp, we have to add the below ingredients one by one :
- 1 tbsp of Lemon Juice
- 1 tbsp of Mustard Oil
- 2 tsp of Black Salt
- 1 tbsp of Everest Pani Puri Masala
- 2 tsp of Chat Masala
- Salt as per taste. I have used Rock Salt here
- 1 tbsp of Bengali Bhaja Masala (Click to see the recipe)
Mixing all the ingredients with the Tamarind pulp and the chaat dressing is ready.
4. Pour the dressing on the boiled potatoes and the other ingredients and mix well very well.
Bengali Aloo Kabli Chaat is Ready. Garnish with some Bhujia and dig in.
You may replace the fried Peanuts with roasted ones and its super healthy too. Isn’t it?
