Divine and delicious Khichdi prasad offered to Sai Baba every Thursday at the Sai Baba temple in Shirdi. It is very simple yet flavorful khichdi prepared with rice, dal, vegetables and simple spices. Onion and garlic are not used in this Khichdi prasad, it is also called Sai Khichadi.
HOW TO PREPARE SAI BABA TEMPLE KHICHDI( STEP BY STEP RECIPE)
- Take equal quantity of Rice and Toor Dal. Here, I have taken 1/2 cup of Basmati Rice and 1/2 cup of Toor Dal or Arhar Dal. Wash the rice and dal with water for 2 to 3 times. Discard the dirty water.
- Soak the rice and dal in 2 cups of Water for 30 minutes minimum.
3. Heat 3 tsp of sunflower or groundnut oil in a pressure cooker. Once the oil is hot, add the below spices:
- 1 Bay Leaf
- 1/2 tsp of Mustard Seeds
- 1 tsp of Cumin Seeds
- 1/4th tsp of Asafoetida or Hing
Fry these spices for few seconds till mustard seeds and cumin seeds starts to splutter.
4. Add 1 tsp of Ginger and Green Chilly paste. Fry it for few seconds till the raw smell of Ginger is gone.
5. Next, add one Tomato finely chopped followed by Salt as per taste. Cook till tomatoes turns soft.
6. Now, add the dry spices as mentioned below :
- 1/2 tsp of Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp of Red Chilly Powder
- 1 tsp of Coriander Powder
Fry the spices for few seconds with the tomatoes.
7. Now, add the vegetables Carrot, Potato and Green Peas and fry these with the masala for a minute.
8. Add 1 tsp of Garam Masala powder and 1 tsp of Clarified Butter or Cow Ghee. Give a nice mix with the vegetables.
Next, add the soaked Rice and Dal with the Water. Cover the lid of the pressure cooker and cook it for 2 whistles. Allow the steam to settle down on its own and then open the lid of the pressure cooker.
9. To give it a khichdi like consistency, add 1 cup of warm water and cook on low flame for 2 minutes.
10. Finally, add 1 tsp of Lemon juice, handful of chopped Coriander leaves and 1 tbsp of Cow Ghee.
11. Give a nice mix with the Khichdi. Divine, delicious and flavorful mix vegetable masala khichdi prasad of Shirdi Sai Baba temple is ready.
This khichdi prasadam is offered every thursday to Sai Baba in the Shirdi Sai Baba temple and then distributed to the devotees.
